Medical Examination

In order to attain your Residence Permit you will need to undergo a Medical Examination at a local city hospital. Remember, you arrive on a Z visa. This Z visa is only valid for 30 days and will need to be transferred to your full 12 or 10 month Residence Permit within those 30 days. In order to do this the school requires you to register with the local police station and complete the health check. So ideally your welfare officer will attend the hospital with you within 10 days of arrival. Please bring your passport, letter from the school and 2 x passport photographs with you (although these can be acquired at the hospital at additional cost).

PLEASE DO NOT EAT ANYTHING FOR 12 HOURS BEFORE THE EXAMINATION

The medical examination is best done inside China. It is possible to have it done outside in certain countries but the report requires notarizing and translating which is time-consuming and costly. Hospitals are usually open 9am-12pm & 2pm-5pm. Your welfare officer will inform you of the closest participating clinic and supply you the exact address.

The examination is fairly painless and lasts around 1 hour, withstanding queuing and waiting times. September can be a particularly busy time as not only foreign workers undergo physical checks but also foreign students and Chinese citizens applying for foreign visas. You will be seen by a total of 6 specialists in different rooms including:

>Urine test

>Weight and height

>Chest x-ray

>ECG

>Liver & Kidney ultrasound

>Visual test

Your results will be available within 48hours. You will be issued a ticket with a stated time to collect your health certificate from the same hospital. Please keep receipts if your welfare officer isn't with you.

Should there prove to be any irregularities with your health check. You will be advised by the hospital further and referred to a doctor. A second and third test is possible. Should the health check be failed and health insurance is not attainable, the Resident’s Permit will not be issued. In this case the applicant will be unable to stay in China and complete the contract.

Health Insurance

This is attained via your health report certificate. Emergency treatment will be conducted at any hospital. Consultation and service fees may apply. Our insurance is with PICC HEALTH, one of China’s largest health insurers. In event of treatment or consultation please keep all receipts and documents, which will allow for your reimbursement. Overall the healthcare system in modern Chinese cities is very good. It’s also very cheap in comparison to America and Europe. Most healthcare professionals and services will hold an English speaking ability. There are also other private medical options available in western-themed hospitals. All healthcare enquires should be directed to the school’s HR department.

Sickness and Absence

It’s a fact of life people get sick. No one likes to get sick but we understand it can happen on occasion. If you feel that your physical or mental wellbeing is impairing you from your contractual duties, you must immediately inform your School Manager. If you need to seek immediate medical assistance please contact your Welfare Officer who will escort you to hospital and stay for any critical periods.

Should you be unable to perform your duties, this will be recorded on your monthly KPI report. All absent days from the school will be unpaid. If there is a question of accountability or you suffered an accident on school premises then this situation will be reviewed by Echo HR.

Throughout our 10 year history, serious illness or critical injury is an extremely rare occurrence. China remains an incredibly safe environment, as do our schools.
